Book Blogger Hop: What You Don't Know #2

Book Blogger Hop

This Week's Question:
What is one thing that your blog readers probably do not know about you?

My Answer:
I used to HATE reading books that were written in a first person POV.  I actually wouldn't even read them. Then my sister (who I always went to for books) suggested I read All the Tea in China by Jane Orcutt (which is written in first person). At first I said I didn't want to but she told me it was the only book she had for me so it was either that or I could just not read for a little while. And if you know me, you know that not reading is a fate worse than death so I picked it up. I LOVED it, and to my surprise the fact that it was in first person made it better rather than ruining it! Now I read a lot of books written in first person POV and I like them just as much as the third person ones!

I never hated reading first person but I couldn't stand writing in first person until very recently. I don't really like the new trend of multiple first person narratives. I'd much rather read it in third person so I don't get confused who's head I'm in.

Just curious as to why you didn't like first person? I can't decide if I like first or third person better... I think it really depends on the book. If you changed some of my favorite books point of views I may not like them as much. I don't know.. hah! And, actually, I think I like writing in first person better. I connect better with the main character, and it's a bit more personal for me. In my fantasy novel I wasn't really connecting with my main character... there were a few other characters that I was in love with and knew everything about them, but I didn't want to change my main character. So I changed the pov to first person and I definitely feel a much stronger connection, which I think shows through my writing quite a bit.
Anyway... you probably didn't want to know all that. ;-)

@Lizzy-Yeah the multiple first person narratives can get quite confusing!

@Abby-I actually have no clue why I didn't like it! Maybe it was because it was something different than what I was used to. And I can see how writing in first person would make it much easier to connect! If I ever decided to do writing I'd probably pick that way! Thanks for sharing!

I don't usually pay attention before I start a book about which person it's written in. But most seem to be third person and I think I like that better.

Here's my hop post.
