This Week's Question:

What is one thing that your blog readers probably do not know about you?

My Answer:

I originally did not want to review books/blog. I thought I would stink at it and that I wouldn't be able to put my opinions into words. Basically I was afraid I would flop. So every time my sister brought it up to me I came up with a bunch of excuses as to why it wouldn't work. Then came that fateful day when she got a book to review from one of my favorite authors (Mary Connealy) and she told me that if I wrote the review for it I would be able to keep the book. Well that was just too good of an offer, so with quite a lot of fear of messing up I wrote my first review. It wasn't brilliant or anything but I quickly realized that this was fun and that I actually liked it! And then in November of last year I officially joined my sister on this blog and I've been loving it ever since!

My Thoughts
What a book! Kyle Idleman really makes you truly look at your walk with God and see it as it really is. I was constantly being challenged as I read this and I began to see areas in my life where I was behaving more like a fan than a follower of Jesus. I would honestly recommend this book to anyone-it's a life-changer.

Kyle Idleman is the Teaching Pastor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, the 5th largest church in America. He is the author and presenter of the Award-winning video curriculum series H2O: A Journey of Faith and The Easter Experience. Kyle and his wife, DesiRae, have four young children.

Why I Want It

I recently read Dani Pettrey's debut novel and I LOVED it! All of the characters were fantastic, and I really like Piper and Landon so I'm super psyched that this book is their story. I also can't wait to meet Reef. Needless to say I honestly can't wait for this book to release!

Wedded to War by Jocelyn Green

This week, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance is introducing Wedded to War • River North; New Edition edition (July 1, 2012)

This was a really interesting read! I loved the fact that it was set at the beginning of the Civil War rather than in the middle or near the end. It was also pretty cool that it was based on a true story. The author did a great job of portraying what it was like to be a woman going against the norm of society during that time. I personally wish the romance of the story would have been slightly more prominent, but it was still good in spite of that. I will definitely be looking forward to reading more books by this author!

 I was quite happy that I was able to finish 4 out of 5 of my current reads plus finish a book I need to review. I enjoyed all of these but I'd have to say Not a Fan was my favorite!

I'll be choosing a new non-fiction read soon but I have no clue what it'll be!

What's the ONE super-hyped book you'll NEVER read?

My Answer:

This was an easy no-brainer for me. The super-hyped book I'll never read is without a doubt Fifty Shades of Grey. The little I've heard about it's content is enough to keep me from ever picking it up and then add to that the fact that it's supposedly badly edited and it's fate is sealed as I book whose cover I shall never open.

My Thoughts

I had mixed feelings about this book. Some parts I thought were really good and other parts just seemed to be lacking for me. This has been the case with all of The Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek Series, they are good but not amazing. This isn't to say that I don't enjoy reading them, but there just always seems to be something that holds them back. Unfortunately I can't put my finger on what that is exactly. But enough about that and onto the actual book review.

I think my favorite thing about this book was the hero, Carter Alwyn. He's a pretty awesome guy who is willing to accept when he's wrong and apologize for it-who doesn't love that in a guy!-he's also quick to forgive, and just has that all around western deputy thing down! Vivian wasn't too bad either and I found myself sharing some of her emotions, which is always fun to find. 

I know this review is rather random, but as I said I have mixed emotions about it and it's hard to put them into words!

Why I Want It

Umm..it's Mary Connealy! Why wouldn't I want it?! And besides that doesn't it just sound awesome?! A group of guys is the perfect setting for Mary Connealy's trademark humor! This is one I honestly CAN"T wait to read!

Road to the Christy's: The Merchant's Daughter

I am once again spotlighting a Christy Award nominee! And this time I get to introduce you to The Merchant's Daughter, an awesome book by Melanie Dickerson. Melanie has two books out, both retellings of well known fairy tales. The first, The Healer's Apprentice being about Sleeping Beauty, and her second, this book about Beauty and the Beast. She also has a third one coming out in December called The Fairest Beauty which is about Snow White. The cover is amazing! Check it out HERE. And now onto my review!

About the Book

My Thoughts
This book was even better than the first, which I loved a lot! Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale and I love reading/watching retellings of it. And this one did not disappoint. Set in the 1300's it was very much what Beauty and the Beast would actually look like in real life. I loved finding all of the things that pointed to the fairy tale and I really liked the fact that the author didn't try to make it as similar as possible but rather made it realistic. This book is great for anyone who likes fairy tales, retold fairy tales, or just plain awesome books!

Book Blogger Hop: How Long Does It Take?

This Week's Question:

How long does it take you to finish a book?

My Answer:

This question can have SO many answers! I can read an average of 80-100 pages per hour depending on the book, but I don't often have the time to sit straight through. If the book is amazing (or sometimes just really good) I can finish it in a day, but my norm is to read a book over the course of about two days. Really though everything comes done to what type of book it is!

Hey all! I am so happy to be part of the Road to the Christy's blog tour! I'm also super psyched that Susan May Warren's novel My Foolish Heart is a nominee in the Contemporary Romance section and that I get to spotlight this awesome book here.
From what I understand/have picked up from other bloggers, is that basically I'm just reviewing the book so I'm gonna go ahead and just format the rest of this like I do all of my reviews! And now without further ado I give you... My Foolish Heart by Susan May Warren!

My Thoughts
Of course I loved it! It's Susan May Warren! I actually read this book awhile ago. My amazing sis got it for me for my birthday which was a week after it came out.
This is an amazing story of healing both from emotional and physical scars. And I loved how Izzy and Caleb help each other through their struggles. I also loved the whole plot of falling in love through the radio and in person at the same time-genius idea.
My Foolish Heart is book four of the Deep Haven Series. And it is really cool cause the characters from the other books show up at different times. I love series like this that are set in a town and each story is about a different couple in that town. Another Deep Haven success!

Or maybe I'm an adventurer -- having lived and traveled all over the world, including Siberia Russia as a missionary for eight years. About the Book

Reporter Moira Harrisons is lost. In the dark. In a thunderstorm. Why I Want It

First off, it's Irene Hannon, who is an awesome author. And second, after that description who wouldn't want to read it?!

Top Ten Most Unfortunate Character Names

This week is a freebie week so I looked through the past Top Tens and thought most unfortunate character names sounded like a really fun topic! So without further ado here are some of the most horrible names I have come across while reading.

Opal Speck from The Bride Backfire by Kelly Eileen Hake-Opal? Speck?! That is just an awful cruel name that brings to mind a cranky old lady. The book is pretty awesome though!

Adelaide Proctor from Head in the Clouds by Karen Witemeyer-I will admit this isn't as horrible as some of the names on this list but still I would hate to be called Adelaide. Or worse. Addy!

Odessa St. Clair from Breathe by Lisa T. Bergren-The last name is pretty cool, but Odessa? Really?! And to top it off her sister's name is Moira. Thankfully their brother escaped with the cool name of Dominic!

Lucious Landrum from Love on the Line by Deeanne Gist-This has to be the worst name I have ever come across! It is just awful! And to make matters worse the character actually liked his name! Thankfully he was undercover most of the book and went by Luke Palmer

Phineas Snowe from All the Tea in China by Jane Orcutt-This comes close to Lucious, but at least it's slightly more manly. And there really is no good nickname.

Lorena Huntley from Prize of My Heart by Lisa Norato-This too is not completely awful, but pretty bad nonetheless.

Esme and Jinx Price from Heiress by Susan May Warren-The aren't as much bad as they are just kinda strange. As you read the books they do tend to grow on you slightly but...

Kerenhappuch Collins from Ten Plagues by Mary Nealy-Yeah it's bad. This character's parents names her after one of Job's daughters. Thankfully the entire book she goes by just Keren.

Candace Thompson from The Sweet Seasons Novels by Debbie Viguie-Ok no teenager should have to go through life with a name like Candace. I know the name was a big part in the story but still.

Beatrice Prior from Divergent by Veronica Roth-Beatrice is another name no teenager should have. At least she changes it to Tris!

Here is what I finished last week:

Yeah this was quite a pitiful week, book-wise. My sis (who is away for 11 months at GFA's School of Discipleship) surprised us with a week long visit, so between spending time with her and hanging out with all the friends that came to see her plus my niece's b-day party and a babysitting job I had very little reading time. Hopefully this week will be a little better, but I'm in a slight reading funk/crafting craze so we'll see what happens!


What I am currently reading:

With all the craziness I didn't make any progress on my non-fiction books or my new classic.


What I hope to read this week:

Again, no promises of getting all of these done but I'm gonna try!
