Boycott Amazon, Jenny B. Jones, and National Day of Prayer

I received the following email from Jeff Gerke, author, editor, and helmsman of both Where the Map Ends and Marcher Lord Press:

Greetings, friend of Marcher Lord Press.

I haven't sent out an update in a while but things are going very well at Marcher Lord Press.

The cover for "The Personifid Invasion" is mostly done and the cover for "Hero, Second Class" should be done in early May. Keep watching the site for them to magically appear...

Lots of other developments, too. Including that fact that I'm already in the acquisitions process for list #2. Gotta get those babies in the pipeline.

The reason for this message is to ask you to consider a one-day boycott of Amazon.com.

On May 1, please consider not purchasing from Amazon. Here's why.

Amazon is trying to put a squeeze on competitors in the print-on-demand (POD) industry. They're saying that any POD book not published through their POD company (BookSurge) cannot be sold on Amazon. I'm planning to use one of their main competitors, LightningSource, to print Marcher Lord Press books--and I need them to be sold through Amazon--so this directly affects me. And you.

Here's an article that talks about the United States Authors' Guild and others who are calling for this one-day boycott: http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100967.

If you were thinking of purchasing something from Amazon on the 1st, please consider holding off until the 2nd.

Thank you! Let's help send the message that they can't step on the little guy.

Jeff

I passed this along to some friends last night, but I wanted to post it here as well. Be sure to click over and read the article. One correction to Jeff's statement above - according to the article, other POD books can be listed on Amazon, but at a drastically increased cost to the POD publisher, plus a yearly fee.

In other news, CFBA is featuring The Big Picture by Jenny B. Jones this week. Does the author sound familiar? The first novel in this series, In Between, just was announced as a Christy nominee.

Don't forget that today is the National Day of Prayer. Make some time today to pray for our country, the upcoming election, and the brave men and women serving in our armed forces. If you know someone serving, whether home or abroad, leave a comment with their name (you can include rank, branch, and location if you wish) and I'll be sure to pray for them.

I had to double-take the title of your post.
The title looked like you wanted us to boycott Amazon and Jennie B, Jones AND the National Day of Prayer.
Nice post though :)
