Friday Memes 8/30

The Question:
Have you ever ended up reading a book with its last or last few pages missing? What book was it? And how did you managed to get to the end?

My Answer:
I don't think I've ever had this problem and if I did I'd probably exchange it from wherever I bought it.

Sitting high on the wagon seat, a breeze fluttered Glynna Greer's skirt. The near horse reared, sending the buckboard rolling backward. The other horse in the team whinnied and shifted nervously.

How Different...A Tag

Grace@Fictionally made up this tag and tagged me! Thanks Grace!

What To Do: This is a "make you think" tag. List three to five things that would be different in your life without fictional books, or fictional characters. When your through, tag three other people.

1) No Blog-If there weren't fiction books I would have no real reason to blog, especially since I am not the type to have deep thoughts that would make for good blog posts!

2) Less friends-This is a bit of a spin-off of #1 since I have "met" and become friends with so many awesome people through my blog that I really wouldn't have met any other way!

3) No Quoting-My family is constantly quoting movies and TV shows but without a fictional world there wouldn't be much to quote!

4) A lot more Non-Fiction reading-I can't imagine not having a love of reading so I'd probably be reading a lot more non-fiction especially history books!

5) More crafting and music-I enjoy crocheting and occasionally some cross-stitch, kitting, or rubber stamping so I'd probably do a lot more of that to fill my day and I'd probably listen to a lot more music to fill the silence in my head.

In short I can't imagine a life without fiction! As a shy and introverted girl who was homeschooled and lives at least 20 minutes from any form of entertainment it would be horrible not to have the fictional world to lose myself in! I would be so lonely and bored and my room would be empty since my bookshelves take up most of my space!

Waiting on Wednesday #77: A Reluctant Courtship

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event that spotlights upcoming releases that we're
eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

A Reluctant Courtship by Laurie Alice Eakes
Revell-October 15, 2013

About the Book
Honore Bainbridge has been courted by two men, one of whom turned out to be a traitor, the other a murderer. Banished to her family's country estate, where she will hopefully stay out of trouble, she finally meets the man she is sure is exactly right for her: Lord Ashmoor. Tall, dark, and handsome--what more could a girl ask for? But he too is under suspicion because of his American upbringing and accusations that he has helped French and American prisoners escape from Dartmoor Prison. For his part, Lord Ashmoor needs a wife beyond reproach, which Honore certainly is not. Amid a political climate that is far from friendly, Honore determines to help Ashmoor prove his innocence--if she can do so and stay alive.

From the rocky cliffs of Devonshire, England, comes the exciting conclusion to the lush Daughters of Bainbridge House series. Award-winning author Laurie Alice Eakes thrusts her readers into high drama from the very first sentence and keeps them on their toes until the final page.

Why I Want It
I enjoyed the first two books in this series and I'm really looking forward to see how Honore's story plays out!

Sunday Songs #8

I am always at a loss for what to post on Sunday's so I decided to make it a day to share some Christian music that I love!

He Is With Us by Love & The Outcome

Bleeding Heart by Amber Stokes with Blog Tour Giveaway

About the Book
Five bleeding hearts. One profound journey.
Summer 1886
Sally Clay's livelihood has been snatched away, but in its place arises an opportunity to escape from her sordid past and an unrelenting, unwanted suitor. Boarding a train with a heartsick rancher and an enigmatic miner, she leaves Virginia City behind and heads to Northern California, waiting for the chance to make right what went wrong three long years before.
But the road to revenge is far from smooth. Sally soon learns that the jagged pieces of a broken heart can far too easily wound the hearts of others - and hers isn't the only heart that's broken. Tragedy and fear dog her steps as she flees from the redwood forests to the high desert and back again. Will her bleeding heart ever find a way and a place to heal?
A desperate soiled dove. Three men who come to care for her. One man determined to claim her.
All on a journey that will show them what true love really involves.

My Thoughts
I have been awaiting this book for awhile now! It started with discovering that my friend Amber was writing a book and was going to publish it, which made me happy to begin with, then I saw the cover (Gorgeous, right?!) and read the synopsis and an excerpt which got me really excited! So as I finally got to read it I had pretty high expectations and Amber met them!
The writing style was beautiful, and the story...let me just say that Amber knows how to play with your emotions keep you guessing! I never knew what awaited me as I turned each page and I was literally shocked on a few occasions! It was amazing how she packed such a great story into what was actually a rather short book! I highly recommend this book and eagerly await what Amber will write next!

Into the Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Into the Whirlwind
Baker Publishing Group (August 15, 2013)
by
Elizabeth Camden

MY THOUGHTS:
I read all three of this author's books last year and I was impressed by how they steadily got better and I liked each one more than the last. So when I heard about Into the Whirlwind I had very high expectations, and while I did really enjoy this story it failed to top Against the Tide for me. But, regardless of that it was still a good story in it's own right. I can't remember a time of not knowing about the Great Chicago Fire but I had never really taken the time to think about how terrifying it was and how hard the process of rebuilding such a great city was. I loved how Mollie was a business owner so we could see how hard it was for businesses to get back on their feet after this tragedy. There were so many aspects I had never considered and it was really cool to see how the city banded together to help each other.
Zack and Mollie were very interesting characters who were vastly different. They both had times were they frustrated and confused me with their actions and choices but in the end I did enjoy their characters. I especially liked Zack's care and support of his parents and Mollie's devotion to the wounded men from her father's battalion.
There were many twists that I really didn't see coming and it all worked together to form a very unique and interesting story.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
A research librarian and associate professor, Elizabeth Camden has a master’s in history from the University of Virginia and a master’s in library science from Indiana University. She has published several articles for academic publications and is the author of four nonfiction history books. Her ongoing fascination with history and love of literature have led her to write inspirational fiction. Elizabeth lives with her husband in central Florida.

ABOUT THE BOOK
After her father's death, Mollie Knox takes over his watchmaking company and uses her head for business to solidify the good name of the 57th Illinois Watch Company. Her future looks bright until the night her beloved city is destroyed in the legendary Great Chicago Fire. With her world crumbling around her, Molly must do whatever it takes to save her company in the aftermath of the devastating fire.
Zack Kazmarek is an influential attorney with powerful ties to the political, mercantile, and ethnic roots of Chicago. His only weakness is Mollie Knox, a woman who has always been just beyond his reach. However, all bets are off after the fire destroys Chicago, and Mollie is in desperate need of assistance. Just as Zack finally begins to pursue the woman he loves, competition arises in the form of a hero from her past who can provide the help she needs to rise from the ashes.
While Mollie struggles to rebuild, the two men battle for her heart. One has always loved her, but the other has the power to save her. In the race to rebuild the city, can she survive with her business and her heart intact?

The Question:
Book blogging is more than just reading. Who helped you set up or run your blog? Or did you do it all yourself?

My Answer:
I took over my sister's blog so she had it all set up and showed me how to work it all! (She's awesome like that!)

On Distant Shores by Sarah Sundin

About the Book
Lt. Georgiana Taylor has everything she could want. A comfortable boyfriend back home, a loving family, and a challenging job as a flight nurse. But in July 1943, Georgie's cozy life gets decidedly more complicated when she meets pharmacist Sgt. John Hutchinson. Hutch resents the lack of respect he gets as a non-commissioned serviceman and hates how the war keeps him from his fiancée. While Georgie and Hutch share a love of the starry night skies over Sicily, their lives back home are falling apart. Can they weather the hurt and betrayal? Or will the pressures of war destroy the fragile connection they've made?
With her signature attention to detail and her talent for bringing characters together, Sarah Sundin pens another exciting tale in her series featuring WWII flight nurses. Fans new and old will find in On Distant Shores the perfect combination of emotion, action, and romance.

My Thoughts
After meeting Georgie (and briefly Hutch) in With Every Letter, I was really excited to see how their story would play out. They had so much going against them (they were both engaged to other people, officers and and enlisted men were not allowed to fraternize, and they were in the middle of a war) so I was very curious as to how they would make this relationship work. And while it was difficult they found a way which made a very beautiful story.
Georgie was a very fun heroine who never really learned to think for herself due to being the baby of the family whose decisions were always made for her. It was really cool to watch as she started to go to God to make her decisions rather than other people.
And Hutch, he was such an awesome hero and I honestly felt so bad for him. I was so impressed with the way he controlled himself around his rude superiors. He might have been seething on the inside but he never let it spill out to them, something I don't think I could do. He also impressed me several other times, like when he helped rescue and take care of an Italian orphan girl. His major fault was letting his desire to be in the Pharmacy Corps consume him and I loved when he finally realized that and gave his desire to God.
There were so many little things I loved in this book and they all came together to form a beautiful, emotional story that joined all of Sarah Sundin's other books on my favorites list!
I once again made a playlist of the songs mentioned in the book which you can find HERE

With Every Letter by Sarah Sundin

About the Book
Lt. Mellie Blake is looking forward to beginning her training as a flight nurse. She is not looking forward to writing a letter to a man she's never met--even if it is anonymous and part of a morale-building program. Lt. Tom MacGilliver, an officer stationed in North Africa, welcomes the idea of an anonymous correspondence--he's been trying to escape his infamous name for years.
As their letters crisscross the Atlantic, Tom and Mellie develop a unique friendship despite not knowing the other's true identity. When both are transferred to Algeria, the two are poised to meet face-to-face for the first time. Will they overcome their fears and reveal who they are, or will their future be held hostage by their pasts?
Combining a flair for romance with excellent research and attention to detail, Sarah Sundin vividly brings to life the perilous challenges of WWII aviation, nursing--and true love.

My Thoughts
After absolutely adoring the author's previous series I was super excited to join this new adventure but at the same time a little worried that it would measure up. As soon as I started this book I knew that my worries were for not as I fell in love with this whole new cast of characters. My heart broke for all of the things that the hero and heroine had had to go through as they grew up, things that unfortunately followed them into adulthood. And I absolutely loved watching as they overcame their fears and the things that had been hurting them for years to become the people that God intended them to be. Both Mellie and Tom were really unique characters that I totally loved! The secondary characters were also very interesting and I especially liked Tom's dog!
It was really cool to get another look at the complicated job of flight nursing that I first got a glimpse of in A Memory Between Us. It's amazing all the things that these woman were able to do and how determined and brave they were in the face of danger and opposition.
This book wasn't quite the emotional roller-coaster that the Wings of Glory Series was but there were a decent amount of emotional ups and downs that were once again amazingly written. All in all I loved this book and I was really happy to have book two On Distant Shores on my shelf ready to read!

I once again made a playlist of the songs mentioned in the book which you can find HERE

Blue Skies Tomorrow by Sarah Sundin

About the Book
In a time of peril, can they find the courage to confront their fears and embrace a love that lasts?
When her husband becomes a casualty of the war in the Pacific, Helen Carlisle throws herself into volunteering for the war effort to conceal her feelings. But keeping up appearances as the grieving widow of a hometown hero is taking its toll. Soon something is going to give.
Lt. Raymond Novak prefers the pulpit to the cockpit. His stateside job training B-17 pilots allows him the luxury of a personal life--and a convenient excuse to ignore his deepest fear. When the beautiful Helen catches his eye and captures his heart, he is determined to win her hand.
But when Ray and Helen are called upon to step out in faith and put their reputations and their lives on the line, can they meet the challenges that face them? And can their young love survive until blue skies return?

Filled with drama, daring, and all the romance of the WWII era, Blue Skies Tomorrow is the captivating final book in the popular Wings of Glory series.

My Thoughts
Another amazing novel by Sarah Sundin! I was sad to see this awesome series end but it went out with a bang! I was once again put on an emotional roller-coaster as I read this story. Especially the section where you knew stuff that most of the characters didn't and they were making the wrong decisions that could have terrible consequences. I was honestly yelling at them and had to put the book done for a bit! This author has the astounding talent of being able to make you scream in frustration at the same time as yelling how much you love the book. Since Ray wasn't in much of the previous two books I was really excited to get to know him and he completely surpassed my expectations! He was such an awesome guy who had the perfect blend of softness and strength that a pastor needs. I felt so bad for him in his struggle between wanting to meet the requirements of what society considered being a “man” and not wanting to be responsible for taking a life. And Helen, I cannot believe all that she had to go through from her late husband and her father-in-law! It was amazing how she came out all the stronger despite their attempts to put her down.  I loved seeing the characters from the previous two books and getting to see how their stories where going! In closing, I absolutely adored this entire series so much that it's hard to put into words. They were those books that give you a happy giddy feeling each time you think about them.

I once again made a playlist of the songs mentioned in this book which you can find HERE
