If the Shoe Fits by Sandra D. Bricker

About the Book
Julianne used to believe in fairy tales; she's been watching for Prince Charming to come charging in on his white steed ever since the day her mother read her Cinderella for the first time. But she's never come close to finding the perfect man-instead she's always tripping over her childhood best friend, Will. And who finds their Prince Charming on a 10-speed bicycle on the other side of the cul de sac? Well... Julianne does. Only she doesn't have a clue.
She and Will are attorneys now, and they've joined up in private practice in a beautiful Cincinnati office building that overlooks the Ohio River. And then one day Julianne is on her way to court, and runs right smack dab into Prince Charming. But when she looks again, all she finds is a metaphoric sign she is certain came straight from Heaven: The Prince's toolbox has fallen off the back of his truck, and a work boot along with it. What better way for God to grab the attention of a Cinderella-in-training than to show her a glass slipper...errrr, work boot?...waiting to be reunited with its owner?
So she sets out to track down the mysterious Prince Charming. He's the most gorgeous guy she's ever seen...and a caring animal rescuer, too. Surely he must be the soul mate God has prepared her for.
But, Julianne's prince is starting to look less and less charming all the time. No matter how she tries to romanticize him, he just keeps tumbling down off that dumb pedestal. And with the Bar Association dinner coming up that will honor her for her outstanding charity work over the year, Julianne wants so much for her friends and colleagues to see her with someone besides her best friend Will. To make matters worse, Prince Charming has no designs on wearing a penguin suit and attending a stuffy old dinner. With her pride pressing in on her like sticks from a cactus, Julianne sinks to the bottom of the proverbial barrel and actually offers to pay Paul to be her date.
Julianne is on a collision course with God's perfect plan for her life...if only she could open her eyes and see it before it's too late.

My Thoughts
When I first heard about this book I thought it sounded great and I looked forward to reading it. Sadly it did not live up to my expectations at all. I'm going to keep this short because I really hate to bash books. And really I can see how someone might enjoy this book it just really wasn't for me. Julianne kinda drove me nuts, but Will was a pretty good hero. There were a lot of corny moments and some times where you questioned the sanity of the characters and in the end I had to force myself to finish. But please don't just take my word for it, and check out some other reviews!

Uncompromising by Hannah Farver

About the Book
Ask any girl on the street what womanhood is about, and you'll get a blank stare in return. No one knows. Young women are devoid of vision beyond popularity, material wealth, a cute boyfriend or a dream career. Even in Christian circles, significant questions are often left unanswered: What's the point of purity? Modesty? Femininity? What's biblical womanhood?  Most of all, girls wonder at the longing in their souls for something greater.

Uncompromising:  A Heart Claimed By a Radical Love cuts straight to the heart of young womanhood. Rather than setting up rules, it pulls at the desire in every woman's heart to live a life of purpose, fully surrendered to His radical love.  Written in an edgy teen voice, Uncompromising is a collection of "field notes" from the author's own search for answers...and the story of how she stumbled upon the one Cause worth dying for.  Contains study questions for group or individual use.

My Thoughts
I have heard several good things about this book from my sisters and a friend so I jumped at the chance to review it, and it was as good as they said it was! Hannah writes in a clear and refreshing way that is sure to connect with girls of all ages. She never comes across as “preachy” but rather as an imperfect girl who is chasing after God and longs for others to do the same. Hannah addresses many issues that plague girls today and shares what God's taught her in regards to those subjects. I would highly recommend this to girls everywhere!

Widow of Gettysburg by Jocelyn Green

About the Book
When a horrific battle rips through Gettysburg, the farm of Union widow Liberty Holloway is disfigured into a Confederate field hospital, bringing her face to face with unspeakable suffering--and a Rebel scout who awakens her long dormant heart.
While Liberty's future crumbles as her home is destroyed, the past comes rushing back to Bella, a former slave and Liberty's hired help, when she finds herself surrounded by Southern soldiers, one of whom knows the secret that would place Liberty in danger if revealed.
In the wake of shattered homes and bodies, Liberty and Bella struggle to pick up the pieces the battle has left behind. Will Liberty be defined by the tragedy in her life, or will she find a way to triumph over it?

Widow of Gettysburg is inspired by first-person accounts from women who lived in Gettysburg during the battle and its aftermath.

My Thoughts
After thoroughly loving Jocelyn Green's debut novel I could not wait to get my hands of her second! And I loved this one too!
Almost every time we here the name Gettysburg our minds immediately turn to the bloody battle fought there and we often forget that it was just an ordinary town before that dark time. I really liked how this author reminded us of that and really brought this time in history to life.
Being extremely squeamish this book was a little harder to get through due to the fact that a large portion of it took place in a make-shift “hospital” where amputation was the most common treatment. There were several times I had to put the book down to just breathe and calm my stomach before picking it up again! And that is a testament to how amazing this book is! Normally if there was something that made my stomach churn I'd just stop the book but I loved this one so much that I powered through! And the author did do a great job of showing the horrors without getting ridiculously graphic!
Liberty was a great heroine and I loved how she didn't let the color of a person's uniform or skin keep her from helping them! Silas was also a well written hero! And I loved how Charlotte from the first book made an appearance!

So yeah I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend I to history lovers!
