Friday Memes 5/17

The Question:
What is your guilty pleasure read?

My Answer:
I don't think I really have any "guilty pleasure" reads so I'm going to rephrase it as just pleasure reads as in what books I'd read just for the happiness they bring me!
The River of Time Series by Lisa T. Bergren
The O'Malley Series by Dee Henderson
The Californians by Lori Wick

"Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name."

Crockett Archer stretched his legs into the aisle as the train pulled away from the Caldwell station. Only a brief stop in Somerville remained before his arrival in Brenham-the place where his life's work would begin. A huge wide grin spread across his face as he contemplated his future.
Stealing the Preacher by Karen Witemeyer

My Thoughts
A perfectly normal beginning to a book but for me it caused a great big smile on my face and a squeal of excitement. Why? Well simply because I have been anxiously awaiting the chance to read this book for quite awhile now so as I read this beginning I was so happy that it could have been the worst start in the world (though I'm convinced this author just simply cannot write a book that is less than amazing) and I still would have loved it! Crockett was one of my favorite characters in Short-Straw Bride so I am loving reading his story!!

I am with you on renaming them pleasure reads. Have read a little of Lori Wicks and intend reading some more.

I think I use the word "comfort read" to describe these type of books - the book I need to read on a cold weekend when I'm feeling miserable with a cold and I need a good friend I can rely on to make me feel better....Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear :-)

Crockett is quite a special name! I'd love to begin my life's work, even though I'm not quite sure what it is yet! On a second note, would you like to be part of my blog tour for 'Confessions of a Harry Potter Fan'? Drop me an email, if yes :)

This sounds like a lovely book from the start. I have never read Karen Witemeyer but this sounds like a great book to begin!
Happy Reading,

This is a good beginning that definitely makes me want to know more. How will his life change when he arrives in Brenham? What's his life's work? I'm curious now!
