Friday Memes 6/28

The Question:
So would you read a book just because of the hype?

My Answer:
I wouldn't read a book just because of the hype, but if there was a bunch of hype I'd look it up, check and see if it was clean and/or sounded like something I'd want to read.

Crowds swarmed around and jostled against the Whittaker carriage, slowing its progress from a trot to a crawl. Thick, oily smoke from torches penetrated the interior. Velvet curtains and cushions reeking of pitch felt ready to smother Miss Cassandra Bainbridge, who was already hot on this August night.

I agree with you. I don't read a book specifically for the hype. I will look into it and if it sounds like something I would like, I will give it a try.

I think there can be heaps of hype about a book, but if its not "calling us" as a reader, leave it alone!

Same here...I will check it out, but I won't read it just because it is so hyped up.

It doesn't sound like Cassandra is comfortable in that carriage. I could just imagine how hot and stuffy it is, especially with no a/c back then.

Great beginning!

I usually avoid a book if it gets a lot of hype -- it's the contrarian in me. I may eventually get around to reading it, but it could take years.

Thanks for playing along with Book Beginnings on Fridays!
