Friday Memes 11/14

Book Blogger Hop

The Question:
As you grow in your blogging experience, have you become more particular in terms of what you will post on your blog or what books you will read for review on your blog?

My Answer:
I haven't really noticed that much of a change though I have become more able to tell what books I will or won't like!

Hosted by: Rose City Reader

"Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name."

Grey, the color of the sky outside the makeshift hospital. Grey, the bare tree limbs that reached into the horizon, as if offering prayers for the Dutch countryside and its war-torn people. Grey, the ashen faces of the soldiers as the stretcher bearers carried them in on litters.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Tricia Goyer
(Part of the Where Treetops Glisten novella collection)

My Thoughts
I love this beginning. It immediately draws you into the time and place and it is beautifully written!

The author does a great job of setting the grim mood in the opening. I'd keep reading to find out what this opening has to do with a merry Christmas. Surely the story gets happier!
My Friday post features THE 13 OF HEARTS.

Wow! Great imagery for the beginning!

I definitely know now which books are my type and which aren't. And although I still stick with the same genres quite a lot, I am also discovering a whole new range of genres as well! The Beginning sounds really good, I love the description and the slow escalation of the images! Thanks for sharing :) Have a great weekend!

That's a good observation: "I have become more able to tell what books I will or won't like!" For the most part, I can identify books that I definitely won't like. It's harder with the books that I think I will like. The author can surprise me in many ways.

My response can be found at Reading in Texas.

Sandra-It was a bit of a grim opening but since it's set in the middle of WWII it's very fitting! The author does find a way to make it a merry Christmas with the infusion of hope!

Katherine-I agree!

Juli-I'm the same way! The rest of the book was as good as the beginning!

JC-Yup!

Elizabeth-The author did a fantastic job of setting the stage!

Nyze-Yeah I loved that!

Elsi-There are some surprises along the way and I agree being able to tell what you won't like is definitely easier!
