Friday Memes 10/25

Book Blogger Hop

The Question:
What is your favorite horror novel and why?

My Answer:
Well as I've said the past few weeks I don't read horror books. The closest thing to a horror book I've read and enjoyed was Hangman's Curse by Frank Peretti. It's been awhile since I've read it though so I'm having a hard time coming up with the why but oh well!

"Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name."

"Schnell, schnell!" A German soldier jammed the cold, hard barrel of his rifle into Gerrit Laninga's back. Gerrit's heart throbbed against his ribs like waves in a squall against a dike. Any minute now, it would burst through his chest, splitting open as it flopped to the ground. He scrambled to keep pace with the other nine Dutch Resistance workers in front of him. If he fell behind, the Germans would shoot him on the spot. Not that it mattered one way or the other.
Gerrit was on his way to his execution.

My Thoughts
Great beginning! Nothing like someone walking to their death to grabbed your attention! This immediately sucked me in!

There aren't many horror books that I've read, but I do enjoy reading them.

That definitely is an intense way of starting a novel! I'm Dutch, so I always like seeing Dutch books on blogs :) Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a good weekend!

How in the world does it feel to know you're on the way to your own execution??

What a great book beginning! I'd have to read more. Books set in this era captivate me. I agree with you about horror books -- not my genre.
Here's my Friday56/Book Beginnings post.

I didn't comment on your book beginnings so I am stopping back. That sounds perfect for the era. Sad but perfect.

THANKS for sharing.

Love the title too.

It's not that I don't like reading horror books, I just miss them with all of these releases and other things.

I feel like all of us BBHers need to read more horror now. :-) Maybe we'll be prepared for next year that way.
