About the Book
In 1763 Massachusetts, Susanna Smith has grown up with everything she's ever wanted, except one thing: an education. Because she's a female, higher learning has been closed to her, but her quick mind and quicker tongue never back down from a challenge. She's determined to put her status to good use, reaching out to the poor and deprived. And she knows when she marries well, she will be able to continue her work with the less fortunate.
Ben Ross grew up a farmer's son and has nothing to his name but his Harvard education. A poor country lawyer, he doesn't see how he'll be able to fulfill his promise to make his father proud of him. When family friends introduce him to the Smith family, he's drawn to quick-witted Susanna but knows her family expects her to marry well. When Susanna's decision to help an innocent woman no matter the cost crosses with Ben's growing disillusionment with their British rulers, the two find themselves bound together in what quickly becomes a very dangerous fight for justice.
My Thoughts
From the first moment I opened one of Jody Hedlund's books she catapulted onto my favorites list and I have adored every one of her books so far. Rebellious Heart was no different and I absolutely loved every minute of it!
I have always been intrigued by the stories of our founding fathers so I was extremely excited when I found out that this book would be based on the courtship of John and Abigail Adams. The author once again did a beautiful job of blending fact and fiction together to create a wonderful story rich with historical details.
I could really relate to heroine, Susanna, and could see myself having the same feelings that she did, from her love of learning to the struggle she faced between obey the rules and doing what was right. I loved watching as she discovered who she wanted to be and do outside of what everyone else wanted.
Ben was an amazing hero as well! I loved how he stood up for what was right no matter what and how he was always helping the less fortunate. He had that perfect blend of bold hero with a soft side that had me melting whenever he experienced heartache.
In short, this book was absolutely amazing and was as good as if not better than all of Jody Hedlund's previous books (I can never pick a fav of hers)!
About the Author
Jody Hedlund is an award-winning and bestselling author of inspirational historical romances.
As a busy mama-writer, she has the wonderful privilege of teaching her crew of 5 children at home. In between grading math papers and giving spelling tests, she occasionally does a load of laundry and washes dishes. When she's not busy being a mama, you can find her in front of her laptop working on another of her page-turning stories.
She loves reading almost as much as she loves writing, especially when it also involves chocolate and coffee.
I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Great review! I'd forgotten (didn't know) until the author's note at the end that she used John and Abigail Adams for inspiration. Really brings history to life and reminds you of the stories that form history.
