Friday Memes 2/14

Book Blogger Hop

The Question:
How do you handle unsolicited books that appear in your mailbox? Do you add them to your queue? Do you write to the sender and explain you didn't ask for the book and are not sure when you will be able to read and review the book? Or do you simply not read the book at all?

My Answer:
I actually can't recall a time that this has happened to me! But if it did, it would all depend on the book. If I wanted to read the book I would and then I would post a review, but if it didn't sound like something I'd like I would probably either find someone who would enjoy it or just add it to my get-rid-of shelf!

"Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name."

Eden Christiansen's career, her love life-even her car battery, for that matter-were frozen stiffer than the late-January cold snap encasing the city of Minneapolis.
It Had to Be You by Susan May Warren

My Thoughts
Loved it! Humorous while still giving many necessary details for you to place the story; the heroine, the time period, the date, and the place, all in one fun sentence!

I love this opening! The author tells us the character's name, the setting, the weather, and even describes her love life. All in one sentence.
Here's the link to my Friday post: STRONGER THAN THE REST.

I like the idea of that get-rid-of shelf. Would like to have one not just for books … need a large one :)

Peggy-Yeah it's nice to have a place to stick those books I didn't like! Though it's a bit full at the moment since I only have one shelf of a bookcase!

I get a few unsolicited novels each year, some I am like OHH COOL while others it's like..what is that..never heard of it..lol. So some I read and some I use for giveaways.

Loved that opening sentence!

Have a great weekend,
Stormi

That's a cute beginning!

If I get a book I didn't ask for, I usually appreciate the spirit in which it was offered and try to help out the author or publicist who is trying so hard to get the word out. I may not get around to reading it or posting a review, but I usually post about the book on Mailbox Monday, Book Beginnings on Fridays, and Teaser Tuesday.
