Top Ten Favorite Opening Lines in Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week's Top Ten is supposed to be Favorite Quotes from books, but searching through the hundreds of books I've read for may favorite quotes would take forever so instead chose to do my favorite opening lines. Ones that immediately made me want to continue reading. So here they are (in no particular order):

PJ Sugar would never escape trouble. Clearly she couldn't shake free of it-regardless of how far and fast she ran.
From: Nothing But Trouble by Susan May Warren

Blood dripped into his left eye. No. Not blood. Sweat. Hands tight against his hips and fists balled, Captain Canyon Metcalfe blinked away the sting. Another salty drop slid down his temple.
From: Wolfsbane by Ronie Kendig

The past couldn't have picked a worse time to find her.
From: Flee the Night by Susan May Warren

The Five Horsemen of the Apocalypse rode in. Late as usual.
From: Calico Canyon by Mary Connealy

"You know what I want." Hearing him behind her, she jerked and dropped her paintbrush. It slid across the canvas, streaking the emerald gulf water with a bold, jagged slash of white.
From: Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze

Markos Stravos would not go to war on the eve of his brothers wedding. Even if he wanted to murder his best friend.
From: Sons of Thunder by Susan May Warren

Exactly how much damage can one tiny fish bone do? Ruth Caldwell wondered if she simply ought to swallow the wretched little thing. Knowing my luck, it'll get stuck and I'll choke to death.

From: Letter Perfect by Cathy Marie Hake

Given a different day, a different hour, she might have jumped with him. That thought, perhaps, shook Esther most of all
From: Nightingale by Susan May Warren

A cold chill of evil sleeted through Keren Collins's veins. Wind howled like a tormented soul between the Chicago tenements. Goosebumps rose on her arms. Her hair blew across her eyes and blinded her. Being sightless made the evil more powerful, as if it cast her into the presence of a blackened soul.
From: Ten Plagues by Mary Nealy

"You see that dead guy by the road? Yeah, the one lying in a pool of his own blood with his face all messed up and his clothes all torn and dirty. That's me. Sam Hopkins.
From: Crazy Dangerous by Andrew Klaven
