Top Ten Books I'd Buy Right Now if Someone Gave Me a Fully Loaded Gift Card

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week's actual topic was "Ten Books That Have Been On Your Shelf (Or TBR) From Before You Started Blogging That You STILL Haven't Read Yet" but a made a goal one year to have read every book I owned and I did it! It only lasted about a day and now I have about 70 unread pretties sitting on my shelves. But that one day means that I have exactly zero books that have been unread on my shelf since before I started blogging! That being said I decided to go with one of the topics I missed in my unplanned absence these last two months!

Shades of Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon

About the Book
After cheating death, Veronica Welling is determined to savor every moment in her idyllic kingdom with both her true love and best friend by her side at last. At the same time, Mackenna Reid is enthusiastically building her new life and a theater with her prince. But just as their dreams of happiness are within reach, the world Vee and Kenna have chosen is ripped away, leaving them to face their most horrific challenge yet—their old lives.
Thrust out of Doon, the best friends are confronted with tormentors from their past and no way to return to their adopted land. When the MacCrae brothers rush to their rescue, the girls’ situation turns from nightmare to modern-day fairy tale. But their happiness could be short lived: unbeknownst to them, someone in their closest circle is aiding the witch of Doon in her bid to destroy the kingdom once and for all.

My Thoughts
After loving the first two books in this series I absolutely could not wait to read this book and I was quite ecstatic when I got a copy in the mail! I loved once again being transported to the magical world of Doon, these authors certainly know how to right in such a way that you feel like your in another time and place! I am absolutely in love with the fictional kingdom that they've created and I desperately wish that it was real!
It was fabulous to catch up with Jamie, Veronica, Duncan and McKenna and I loved watching their relationships deepen and grow! Those McCrae boys are certainly some swoon-worthy heroes! It was so much fun to watch their reactions to things in the real world!
There were so many twists and turns throughout the entire book that I was constantly on the edge of my seat and I didn't want to stop reading! And of course the authors once again ended on a cliff-hanger and now I am desperate for book four's release!

Meet the Authors
Carey Corp lives in the metropolitan Midwest with her loveable yet out-of-control family. Carey wrote her first book at the age of seven, and currently begins each morning consuming copious amounts of coffee while weaving stories that capture her exhaustive imagination. She harbors a voracious passion (in no consistent order) for mohawks, Italy, musical theater, chocolate, and Jane Austen. Carey’s debut novel for teens, The Halo Chronicles: The Guardian, earned her national recognition as 2010 Golden Heart finalist for best young adult fiction and was recently featured at the 2012 RT Booklovers Convention in Chicago in YA Alley.

Lorie Langdon has over ten years of experience writing online and print advertising for a Fortune 500 company, and left her thriving corporate career to satisfy the voices in her head. Now as a full-time author and stay-at-home mom, she spends her summers editing poolside while dodging automatic water-gun fire, and the rest of the year tucked into her cozy office, Havanese puppy by her side, working to translate her effusive imagination into the written word and continue to build the young-adult-focused blog, HonestlyYA.

Destined for Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon

About the Book
In this sequel to Doon, Mackenna Reid realizes she made a horrible mistake in choosing to follow her dreams of Broadway instead of staying in the enchanted land of Doon. To make everything worse, she's received her Calling—proof she and Duncan are each other's one true love—and it's pure torment, especially when visions of the very alluring Scottish prince appear right before she goes on stage. So when Duncan tells her an ancient curse threatens to overtake Doon and the new queen and Kenna’s best friend, Veronica, needs her to return, Kenna doesn't have to think twice. With darkness closing in on all sides, Kenna and Vee must battle a world of nightmares in order to protect the kingdom. But it will take the ultimate test of courage for Kenna to salvage her happily ever after.

My Thoughts
This book was exactly the sequel I had been hoping for! After the ending of Doon I was desperate to read this book and the wait seemed to take forever. I couldn't stop turning pages and had this book finished about six hours after I started it!
The characters were all as great as they'd been in the last book though they all were a bit too stubborn for their own good! I was glad that we not only got to see Duncan and McKenna's relationship but also Jaime and Veronica's. Both couples had their ups and downs and it was cool to watch them work through it all.
The curse was very interesting and also rather creepy! The authors did a great job with making it unique and vivid. Which is no surprise since the rest of the book is the same way! They really make you feel like you have been transported to Doon along with Kenna!

I enjoyed this book entirely, except that this book ended with an even bigger cliff-hanger than the last and I cannot wait for book three!

Top Ten Books I'd Love to See As Movies

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

We did this topic a couple years ago (my post here) so these are books that I've read since then and think would make good movies. Provided that they were done by people who love these books as much as I do and keep them 100 percent accurate-haha!

#1. Wings of Glory Series by Sarah Sundin
Amazing World War II books as movies?! Yes, please!

#2. The Walker Family Series by Melissa Tagg
So technically only the prequel and first book of this series have been released but they are so good and I think it would be awesome to watch their lives play out on the big screen, or maybe even as a TV series!

#3. The Quiet Professionals Series by Ronie Kendig
This series would make some awesome action movies!

#4. Royal Wedding Series by Rachel Hauck
With how much everyone is obsessed with the royal family I think that these books about a fictional royal family would do amazingly well!

#5. The Safe Lands Trilogy by Jill Williamson
These are very intriguing books and I think they would make pretty awesome movies but I think they'd be even better as a TV show!

#6. Remnants Series by Lisa T. Bergren
These books are really good and would definitely make for some great movies!

#7. Dauntless by Dina L. Sleiman
I absolutely loved this book (can't wait for the next ones) and with it's Robin Hood similarities I can pretty much guarantee it'd make a fantastic movie!

#8. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
This book is such a favorite that I know it would do super well as a movie! Definitely a better alternative than 50 Shades of Grey!

#9. Doon Series by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon
These books are amazing and I would love to see them as movies!

#10. Jupiter Winds by C.J. Darlington
This book was so good and it would make a fascinating movie!

Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon

About the Book
Veronica doesn't think she's going crazy. But why can't anyone else see the mysterious blond boy who keeps popping up wherever she goes? When her best friend, Mackenna, invites her to spend the summer in Scotland, Veronica jumps at the opportunity to leave her complicated life behind for a few months. But the Scottish countryside holds other plans. Not only has the imaginary kilted boy followed her to Alloway, she and Mackenna uncover a strange set of rings and a very unnerving letter from Mackenna's great aunt---and when the girls test the instructions Aunt Gracie left behind, they find themselves transported to a land that defies explanation. Doon seems like a real-life fairy tale, complete with one prince who has eyes for Mackenna and another who looks suspiciously like the boy from Veronica's daydreams. But Doon has a dark underbelly as well. The two girls could have everything they've longed for... or they could end up breaking an enchantment and find themselves trapped in a world that has become a nightmare.

My Thoughts
Knowing that this book was inspired by the musical Brigadoon I decided to re-watch the movie-even though I hadn't liked it the first time-before reading Doon so that I could see the similarities. Well I enjoyed the movie a lot more this time so I was quite excited to dive into this book! Let me first of all say that while there are definite similarities between Brigadoon and Doon, Doon is completely unique!
I'm having a hard time coming up with the words to say what I want to say so I'm going to have to limit this review to the things I can actually find ways to describe! I liked how we got both Veronica and Mackenna's point of view, and even though they both were told in first person the authors did a great job of keeping you from getting confused as to whose head you were in! I found things to relate to in both of the girls, and the way that their differences complimented each other reminded me of me and my best friend so I loved that aspect. In addition to great heroines this book also had some pretty awesome heroes! Duncan was easier to warm up to at first but once you get to see the reasons behind Jamie's actions you'll love him too.
The town of Doon was beautifully described and it made me want to visit!
The only complaint I have about this book was that it occasionally seemed to share a little more than necessary when it came to certain subjects but it was never so much that I felt that it was wrong. I just would have preferred it to be less.
So in closing, this book was pretty awesome and I can't wait for book two!
