A Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund

About the Book
Living in London's poorest slum, Mercy Wilkins has little hope of a better life. When she's offered an opportunity to join a bride ship sailing to British Columbia, she agrees. After witnessing so much painful heartache and loss in the slums, the bride ship is her only prospect to escape a bleak future, not only for herself but, she hopes, someday for her sister.
Wealthy and titled Joseph Colville leaves home and takes to the sea in order to escape the pain of losing his family. As ship's surgeon, he's in charge of the passengers' welfare aboard the Tynemouth, including sixty brides-to-be. He has no immediate intention of settling down, but when Mercy becomes his assistant, the two must fight against a forbidden love.

With hundreds of single men congregating on the shore eager to claim a bride from the Tynemouth, will Mercy and Joseph lose their chance at true love, or will they be able to overcome the obstacles that threaten to keep them apart?

My Thoughts
Jody Hedlund's books are always fascinating to me! I love the way she takes a bit of history that is often overlooked or not even known about and creates a beautiful love story around it! This book, and the ensuing series, give us a peek into the lives of women who found themselves on one of the "bride ships" headed to the other side of the world.
Mercy and Joseph were both great characters! Though they came from completely different stations in life they both had a heart to help others in need. I loved how even though Joseph was an aristocrat he never hesitated to help those who society deemed beneath him, regardless of what his peers thought. And Mercy had a servant's heart willing to literally give the clothes off her back if it meant someone else was taken care of. They had some obstacles to work through in their relationship but their romance was sweet.
This book didn't have a lot of surprising twists and turns or any huge dramatic moments but I honestly really enjoyed that fact. It was at it's core just a beautiful romance set during a unique part of history. Definitely another win from an amazing author!

Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner

About the Book
After four years with her boyfriend, Cadie McCaffrey is thinking of ending things. Convinced Will doesn't love her in the "forever" way she loves him, Cadie believes it's time for her to let him go before life passes her by. When a misunderstanding leads to a mistake, leaving her hurt, disappointed, and full of regret, she finally sends him packing.
But for Will, the end of their relationship is only the beginning of his quest to figure out how to be the man Cadie wanted him to be. With the dubious guidance of his former pro-athlete work friends and tactics drawn from Cadie's favorite romantic comedies, Will attempts to win her back. It's a foolproof plan. What could possibly go wrong?

Bethany Turner is back with more of the heart and humor readers love. Anyone who enjoys a good romance or binges romantic comedies on Netflix will devour this delightful story.

My Thoughts
After thoroughly enjoying Bethany Turner’s debut last year I have been anxiously awaiting this novel! And with her trademark humor and such an entertaining plot I knew it was gonna be a good one!
I have to start with Will. I loved his adorably clueless self so stinkin much! From the moment he walked onto the scene in the prologue he stole my heart. He wasn’t perfectly chiseled handsome but he had the perfect combination of imperfections that made him completely attractive. But he was one of those guys who has no clue how good-looking they are and that just made him cuter. He was trying so hard in his relationship with Cadie but their lack of communication was really their downfall. I felt so bad for the poor guy who really just didn’t have a clue what was going on.
I started off liking Cadie but through the second half I started to get a little frustrated with her and her reactions to Will (#TeamWill). But once again it came down to them not talking, she kept so many things bottled inside for so long that they festered into ugly wounds that poisoned her thoughts and actions. And even though I got annoyed for a bit I still cheered when they finally cleared the air and found each other again!
Will’s crash course on romcoms provided so much entertainment, especially when he got the other guys involved! They were all cracking me up so much!

Basically this book was exactly what I was hoping it would be, full of humor that made me laugh out loud and romance that made me melt a little! Definitely one I recommend!

The Number of Love by Roseanna M. White

About the Book
Three years into the Great War, England's greatest asset is their intelligence network--field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack every German telegram. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, for the first time in her life numbers aren't enough.
Drake Elton returns wounded from the field, followed by an enemy who just won't give up. He's smitten quickly by the intelligent Margot, but how can he convince a girl who lives entirely in her mind that sometimes life's answers lie in the heart?

Amid biological warfare, encrypted letters, and a German spy who wants to destroy not just them but others they love, Margot and Drake will have to work together to save themselves from the very secrets that brought them together.

My Thoughts
Roseanna M. White’s books are always among my most anticipated releases each year and they always find a place on my favorites list. And this one was no different! I completely loved every single second of it!
After meeting Margot in the last series all of us readers were begging for her story and White delivered in a spectacular way! Margot is definitely unique, she’s a mathematical genius in a time when women were still expected to do little more than be a wife and mother. She sees things in a different way than the rest of the world and views everything through numbers and facts instead of feelings. I absolutely loved how the author wrote her thoughts in such a way that truly got inside her head and saw things from her unique perspective. But even though she didn’t always understand people or their feelings I loved how she did try and she cared about and for them in her own way.
Drake was an amazing hero and the perfect match for Margot! I loved loved loved the way her pursued her without pushing. He met her on her level and slowly won her over. He had me stupidly grinning so many times as he broke down her walls! And he wasn’t just a gentleman in his pursuit of Margot he was just an all around stand-up guy. From his dedication to his job and the selfless work he did to the way he protected and loved his sister, to helping his friends without being asked he was completely deserving of the title of hero.
One of my favorite things about Margot and Drake’s relationship was the banter between them that started from the very first time they met! Their wit was evenly matched and made for hilarious conversations!
It was also so much fun to have some characters from the Ladies of the Manor and Shadows Over England series pop in! I love catching up with old friends!
Basically this book was amazing and you need to read it! I cannot wait for the next book, especially since it’s about Camden!
