Doesn't really matter to me, whatever the blogger prefers!

I am air.
I am wind.
I am stealthy like a cat.
A wild lynx of the forest.
I whisper my chant as I await my prey, crouched in the branches of a tree, one with it, as I must be. My green tunic and hood, my brown leggings, even my stray wisps of hair blend into the forest about me.

My Thoughts
I love this beginning! So beautifully written!

Waiting on Wednesday #150: Three Little Words

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event that spotlights upcoming releases that we're
eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Three Little Words by Melissa Tagg
Bethany House-March 3, 2015

About the Book
Ava Kingsley and Seth Walker might be the most unlikely friends ever. The only thing these two polar opposites have in common is a knack for wordsmithing. Back in college, they were known for their written sparring in the campus newspaper’s popular “He Says/She Says” column.
At their ten-year college reunion, they pick up right where they left off. Except this time their squabbling leads to a surprising turn: friendship and a year-long exchange of emails. So when Ava approaches a crossroads in her athletics department career in Minnesota, Seth is quick to offer the open apartment above the restaurant he’s been remodeling in Maple Valley, Iowa.
Ava doesn’t know where her career will lead her next, but she’s starting to suspect she might see Seth as more than a pen pal. Which would be exciting…except for the fact that he only sees her as a friend.
As Maple Valley grows on her, Ava wonders if there might be something here for her even though Seth is unavailable. And maybe, just maybe, after all the words the two of them have exchanged over the years, they’ll finally be able to say the three that matter most.

Three Little Words is an e-only novella that gives an exciting introduction to Melissa Tagg’s new series about the charismatic Walker family and the endearing town of Maple Valley!

Why I Want It
I have absolutely adored both of Melissa's novels and this novella sounds so amazing and I can't wait to dive into this one! Thankfully I don't have to wait very long!

Friday Memes 2/20

Book Blogger Hop

The Question:
Is there anything that makes you not return to a blog or not want to look at it even for the first time?

My Answer:
Content I don't agree with morally is the biggest turn-off for me but I also probably won't come back if I don't really find anything of interest to me.

Remember the Lilies by Liz Tolsma

About the Book
Interred by the Japanese, missionary Irene Reynolds comes across a mysterious note while working at the censor’s office. She memorizes the parts she must black out and delivers it to wealthy nightclub owner Rand Sterling. Before she knows what’s happening, she’s drawn into a web of secrets and danger.
Rand Sterling wants nothing more than to reopen his nightclubs once the war ends. But slimy Frank Covey wants his hand in the till—and has news that could threaten Rand’s reputation if it became public. More importantly, beautiful and intriguing Irene Reynolds cannot discover this information if he expects to persuade her to become his wife.
When Irene is attacked by a sinister Japanese guard and their secrets are exposed, they must learn the true meaning of forgiveness—if they can stave off starvation until the American troops bring freedom.

My Thoughts
As a long time fan of the WWII time period it is quite hard for me to resist a novel set in that era, so even though this author's last book was a bit of a disappointment for me I still had to give this one a chance since not only was it a WWII story but it also sounded like a cute plot. Sadly this one fell a bit short of the mark as well, and annoyingly I can't quite pinpoint why. I enjoyed the storyline for the most part and the characters were fantastic especially Rand and Irene. There were just several moments where things didn't flow quite right or play out realistically. I really liked how the author handled the spiritual elements though, from Anita's strong faith and joy despite her circumstances to Rand and Irene learning the power of forgiveness. So while I didn't love it, this book was still an enjoyable read!

Meet the Author
Liz Tolsma has lived in Wisconsin most of her life, and she now resides next to a farm field with her husband, their son, and their two daughters. Add a dog and a cat to that mix and there's always something going on at their house. She's spent time teaching second grade, writing advertising for a real estate company, and working as a church secretary, but she always dreamed of becoming an author. When not busy putting words to paper, she enjoys reading, walking, working in her large perennial garden, kayaking, and camping with her family. She'd love to have you visit her at www.liztolsma.com or at www.liztolsma.blogspot.com.

Waiting on Wednesday #149: Double Cross

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event that spotlights upcoming releases that we're
eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Double Cross by DiAnn Mills
Tyndale-April 1, 2015

About the Book
FBI Agent Laurel Evertson’s investigation into a scam targeting the elderly takes an unexpected twist when key evidence leads her to Morton Wilmington, a felon she arrested five years ago on her first undercover assignment. That case has haunted her since, and though she’s vowed to forget Wilmington—and what she sacrificed to put him away—he is now her best lead.
Houston Police Officer Daniel Hilton fears his grandparents may be the scammer’s next targets, and he’ll do anything to protect his family—even force interagency cooperation. But he’s quickly drawn to Laurel’s empathy and zeal and agrees to follow her lead . . . even if it means teaming up with a felon.

As the unlikely trio uncovers evidence suggesting the scam is more extensive and deadly than they imagined, both Laurel and Daniel find themselves in the crosshairs of a killer. Together they must decide if they can trust Wilmington’s claims of redemption, or if he’s leading them straight into a double cross.

Why I Want It
I've enjoyed several of DiAnn's novels and this one sounds a bit interesting.

Top Ten Book Related Problems I Have

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

#1. So many books, so little time-Every reader gets this, there are literally hundreds of books that I might want to read but there is no way I'll ever even get to half of them.

#2. The long horrible waits for my favorite author's next book-and then I devour it in a day or less and start the cycle all over again.

#3. Having my favorite author's new book but not being able to read it-because I have a stack of review books with looming post dates and I have to get them read first.

#4. Having so many TV shows I love-and thus having to decide whether to watch them or read.

#5. Deciding which non-review book to read first-when I finally get a little ahead on my review books. There are so many amazing ones waiting it's hard to pick.

#6. Losing sleep-because the book is just so good that I don't want to put it down.

#7. Not having time to reread-There are so many books that I've read and would love to read again but all the new books keep me from having the time to.

#8. The price of books-Thankfully I get most of mine for review but there are those few that you don't get and then you have to hope you can afford.

#9. Reading a book that none of my friends or sisters have read-and thus having no one to rant and/or talk to about it.

#10. Series ending-I hate saying goodbye to the characters I love!

Worth the Time by Laura Jackson

About the Book
Doesn't anyone feel she's worth their time? Routinely ignored by her single mother, high school senior Lindsey Hamilton hides her loneliness behind a mask of flirtatious self-confidence that has many boys wrapped around her finger. However, during community service required for graduation, she meets a shy guy with a haunted past who barely gives her the time of day. Why doesn't he like her? Then the father she thought had abandoned her before birth wants to meet, and she discovers everything she believed about him is a lie. How will Lindsey learn to trust so she can realize that she has been loved all along?

My Thoughts
After absolutely loving Worth the Wait last year I couldn't wait to read Laura's sophomore novel. Though I will admit to being a bit hesitant since the heroine of this book was the mean girl of the last one. Thankfully I worried for nothing! Laura did an amazing job of explaining all that had happened to Lindsey to make her treat people the way she did and an equally amazing job of believably making her change. It wasn't a sudden transformation but rather a realistic softening of her heart to God through the love of His children. I felt so bad for how Lindsey had been made to feel not always by the mean actions of others but most often by their inaction. It was so cool to watch as God kept bringing people into her life that took the time to care about her and love her, and how she began to let down her guard and accept their friendships. Sutton was a great hero and I loved how strong his faith was and how he didn't let his past stop him from loving others. I was impressed by the way he handled his relationship with Lindsey, being a good friend to her and helping her find her way to the love of the Savior.
I also really liked the character of Lindsey's father and I loved how that situation played out.
In short I loved this book and I absolutely hated when I had to stop reading it for silly things like sleep and work. I highly recommend this book and Worth the Wait!

A Matter of Heart by Tracie Peterson

About the Book
Texas born and raised Jessica Atherton is a wealthy young woman whose heart was broken when the man she intended to marry wedded another. But her world is upended when two new men come into her life, and both manage to stir her heart.
Harrison Gable is a successful young lawyer with ambitions that match Jessica's dreams. His warm, attentive manner and thoughtful gifts make her feel special.
Austin Todd, a former Secret Service agent, enjoys working now as a Texas Ranger cattle inspector. But after learning of forged gold certificates and missing printing plates, he's drawn back into the world of intrigue and agrees to help solve the case. Jessica is drawn to his kind nature and the unspoken pain she sees in his eyes.

If Jessica follows her heart, where will it lead?

My Thoughts
As much as I hate to do it, this is going to be a DNF review. I don't have as much reading time as I used to and I just can't justify spending three hours on a book that I am not enjoying at all. I made it about 40 pages in but just couldn't make myself read anymore. I read and enjoyed the first book of this series so it was a bit of a disappointment me for me not to feel the same about this one. The story just didn't seem flow very well and there was a lot of telling rather showing. Add to that the fact that I wasn't really a fan of the heroine and it just made the book unreadable for me. But please don't just take my word for it, this is only my opinion and I know there are several five and four star reviews on Amazon!

Waiting on Wednesday #148: After a Fashion

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event that spotlights upcoming releases that we're
eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

After a Fashion by Jen Turano
Bethany House-March 3, 2015

About the Book
Miss Harriet Peabody dreams of the day she can open up a shop selling refashioned gowns to independent working women like herself. Unfortunately, when an errand for her millinery shop job goes sadly awry due to a difficult customer, she finds herself out of an income.
Mr. Oliver Addleshaw is on the verge of his biggest business deal yet when he learns his potential partner prefers to deal with men who are settled down and wed. When Oliver witnesses his ex not-quite-fiance cause the hapless Harriet to lose her job, he tries to make it up to her by enlisting her help in making a good impression on his business partner.

Harriet quickly finds her love of fashion can't make her fashionable. She'll never truly fit into Oliver's world, but just as she's ready to call off the fake relationship, fancy dinners, and elegant balls, a threat from her past forces both Oliver and Harriet to discover that love can come in the most surprising packages.

Why I Want It
First of all it's a Jen Turano book which means I'm going to love it! I have adored every one of her books so far and I'm sure this one will be no different! Secondly this plot just sounds amazing and hysterical. And last but not least I am ecstatic to have a character named after me in this series!

The Wishing Season by Denise Hunter

About the Book
Living side-by-side, a fledgling chef and a big-hearted contractor find a delicious attraction.
Trouble is, their chemistry could spoil their dreams.
Spirited PJ McKinley has the touch when it comes to food. Her dream of opening her own restaurant is just one building short of reality. So when a Chapel Springs resident offers her beloved ancestral home to the applicant with the best plan for the house, PJ believes it’s a contest she was meant to win.
Contractor Cole Evans is confident, professional, and swoon-worthy—but this former foster kid knows his life could have turned out very differently. When Cole discovers the contest, he believes his home for foster kids in transition has found its saving grace. All he has to do is convince the owner that an out-of-towner with a not-for-profit enterprise is good for the community.
But when the eccentric philanthropist sees PJ and Cole’s proposals, she makes an unexpected decision: the pair will share the house for a year to show what their ideas are made of. Now, with Cole and the foster kids upstairs and PJ and the restaurant below, day-to-day life has turned into out-and-out competition—with some seriously flirtatious hallway encounters on the side. Turns out in this competition, it’s not just the house on the line, it’s their hearts.

My Thoughts
I absolutely loved the first two books in this series and so I was extremely excited to get to read PJ's story! The premise was so fun and unique and the author did a fabulous job with it!
Cole and PJ were such a fun hero and heroine and I quickly fell in love with them. I loved how PJ was endearingly chatty and how that paired well with Cole's more quiet nature. The way they bantered with each other often left me with a huge smile on my face. PJ was a bubbly breath of fresh air and it was cool to see her stepping out on her own and making her dream a reality. My heart broke for Cole when we found out what had happened to him as a child but I loved how he turned that into a passion for foster kids like him. I also loved how he was always there for PJ when she needed him even if they weren't on the best of terms at that point, and how he kept calling her Sunshine and teasing her about the way they met.
It was great to catch up with the rest of the McKinleys and I really liked the foster kids that Cole took in.
I literally devoured this book and had it finished in less than 24 hours so I guess you can say that I loved it!

The Lost Heiress by Roseanna M. White: Cover Reveal & Guest Post

I am so excited to share this post with you all! I have been a huge fan of Roseanna's books since I read the first pages of Ring of Secrets, so I was delighted to be able to take part in this fantastic cover reveal for her upcoming release The Lost Heiress! Enjoy this post from Roseanna and then take a peek at her new cover! (My thoughts below)

There's very little in the book publication process that excites me more than a cover. Because much as we say "Don't judge a book by its cover," let's face it--we all do. Covers make us pick books up or bypass them. Covers are the face of a book.

I've always enjoyed designing my own covers, whether it be with colored pencils as a kid or Photoshop as an adult. My love for this process has even led me to doing professional cover designs for a few publishers and independent authors (you can see my designs here). And it makes me put a lot of thought into what I want from a cover when I'm filling out a questionnaire for a publisher as an author.

My next book to come out, The Lost Heiress, is a rewrite of my first-ever novel, written when I was 12-13. Needless to say, I've thought  a lot about this cover in the last 20 years, LOL. I wanted my heroine, Brook, to be on it. I wanted readers to see her beauty, and perhaps some of her spunk. I wanted her to be wearing a necklace that she wears every day, one with pearls. I wanted the Edwardian setting to come through in her clothing and hairstyle.

Beyond that...? Well, the book has suspense, mystery, and romance. How to convey it? Back in the day, I thought maybe it should have her horse on it, caught in a gallop. Or, oo, maybe the hero's Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost--that would certainly shout the era. Maybe a glimpse of a the grand manor house owned by her father, Lord Whitby. Maybe...maybe...maybe...

And this is why, on one's own book, it's sometimes nice to not be the cover designer. ;-)

According to my editor, the in-house cover designer at Bethany House had a lot of fun and took a lot of care with this cover. She painstakingly selected the model to be a close match to the pictures I sent her. She chose a beautiful Edwardian gown, the height of fashion in 1910. She made sure my Brook is wearing a pearl necklace, like in the story.

Now, every cover artist tries various options for their design and often runs them by other members of the team. For The Lost Heiress, they wanted something that didn't echo too closely any of Bethany House's other (fabulous!) designs. They wanted something that would intrigue without overwhelming. They decided to go for "stark simplicity." I think it was a wise choice!

And so, without further ado, please allow me to present The Lost Heiress!

Brook Eden has never known where she truly belongs. Though raised in the palace of Monaco, she’s British by birth and was brought to the Grimaldis under suspicious circumstances as a babe. When Brook’s friend Justin uncovers the fact that Brook is likely a missing heiress from Yorkshire, Brook leaves the sun of the Mediterranean to travel to the moors of the North Sea to the estate of her supposed family.

The mystery of her mother’s death haunts her, and though her father is quick to accept her, the rest of the family and the servants of Whitby Park are not. Only when Brook’s life is threatened do they draw close—but their loyalty may come too late to save Brook from the same threat that led to tragedy for her mother.

As heir to a dukedom, Justin is no stranger to balancing responsibilities. When the matters of his estate force him far from Brook, the distance between them reveals that what began as friendship has grown into something much more. But how can their very different loyalties and responsibilities ever come together?

And then, for a second time, the heiress of Whitby Park is stolen away because of the very rare treasure in her possession—and this time only the servants of Whitby can save her.
My Thoughts
Oh my goodness! This cover is stunning! I love the "stark simplicity" and the golden tones are perfect! The model is beautiful and I love the little bit you can see of her dress! I absolutely cannot wait for this book and I am sure the story inside will be just as gorgeous as it's cover!
