Some Bright Someday by Melissa Tagg
He’s torn between love and honor...
Lucas Danby has always regretted the decisions that caused his dishonorable discharge from the military—and he’s never stopped trying to redeem his honor. He's spent the past decade taking on dangerous short-term missions as an elite private soldier—the only part of his life that's ever gone right. But the high-risk work never cures his shame. Now he’s stuck stateside, mentoring a new recruit. Worse, he's sick of lying to the people he cares about most—including the woman he’s secretly loved for years.
She can’t escape her house of memories...
Jenessa Belville should be happy. She's the hometown girl everyone loves, after all. But she’s also the last Belville left—and if she had her way, she'd leave the name and all its painful memories behind. Which is exactly what she hopes to do once she sells Belville Park, the massive estate she inherited from her parents. First, though, she needs to restore the property’s once-glorious gardens. But on the same day she puts up the “For Sale” sign, she discovers three children hiding in the caretaker's cottage, thrusting her into the unexpected role of temporary guardian.
Fighting for their future means healing from the past...
Struggling to mentor a young man with scars nearly as piercing as his own, Lucas offers to help Jenessa restore the Belville grounds. Though drawn together by a trio of kids who tug on their hearts and the sparks they can’t deny, past secrets and current sorrows threaten to pull them apart. Only the brightest love and hardest sacrifice can turn the house Jenessa never wanted into the home she and Lucas have always longed for.
My Thoughts
I’m always in a happy giddy place when I finish a Melissa Tagg book and this time was no different! I was so happy my copy came when I had a free weekend and I literally read it in one afternoon!
I have been intrigued with Lucas since we met him in Keep Holding On and then getting to see more of him and Jenessa in Now and Then and Always had me chomping at the bit for their story, and it more than met my expectations!
Neither Lucas or Jenessa had had an easy life, countless times of people leaving or not being the support they needed had left both of them with walls and masks they hid behind.
Lucas was a man who quietly did the right thing time and time again but he let the one blemish from his past define him and keep him from truly sharing himself with the people close to him. Seeing him find healing and learning to open up was awesome to watch and I found myself falling a little more in love with him with each page!
Jenessa didn’t leave a favorable impression when we first met her in Like Never Before but after learning about the circumstances behind her bitterness at first and seeing her find her way out of that I truly loved her character by the time we got to this book. I loved the no nonsense way she collected her friends, barely giving them a say in the matter, and the way she turned a bunch of lonely people into their own makeshift family.
We all know Lucas has been in love with Jenessa for ages and it was so much fun watching her realize it and realize that she felt the same. Their romance was sweet and natural, a friendship that seamlessly turned into something more!
Adding kids to a story can sometimes be risky and doesn’t always work with a story but they did in this one! I loved that they were authentic (a lot of times kids are written sounding older or younger than they are and as someone who works with kids I absolutely hate that) and I loved seeing them make their way into Jenessa and Lucas’s hearts.
All of the other Maple Valley characters popping in and out was just the icing on the cake for this book! I love getting to see where everyone’s lives are going since last we saw them!
In short, I absolutely adored this book and now I’m off to start anxiously awaiting the next one!

Now and Then and Always by Melissa Tagg
About the Book“It was just a house. Just a weathered old house in a hidden grove, shuttered and still . . . ”
Last year, after traumatic circumstances forced her from her job as a nanny, Mara Bristol finally found a place to belong—the winsome Everwood Bed & Breakfast at the edge of Maple Valley, Iowa. For months, she’s helped its owner, Lenora, maintain the ramshackle property despite their shortage of guests. But when Lenora fails to return from a month-long trip and the bank threatens foreclosure, Mara worries she’s once again alone . . . abandoned . . . about to lose the only true home she’s ever known.
Detective Marshall Hawkins is no closer to whole today than he was two years ago . . . the day his daughter died. Between his divorce, debilitating migraines, and a dependence on medication, his life is falling apart. And when a reckless decision on the job propels him into administrative leave, he has no other plan but to get in his truck and drive. A one-night stay at the Everwood was supposed to be just that. But there’s something about the old house—or maybe its intriguing caretaker—that pulls him in.
Together, Mara and Marshall set out to save the Everwood. But its secrets run deeper than they could’ve imagined. As they renovate the house and search for its missing owner, they’ll each confront the pain that brought them to the Everwood in the first place . . . and just maybe discover a faith and love to help them carry on.
My Thoughts
I feel like I’ve been waiting for this book for pretty much forever. I’ve built it up so high in my mind that you’d think the real thing wouldn’t even have a prayer of meeting my expectations. But guys, it not only met them, it exceeded them! Such an absolutely and wonderfully amazing book that I couldn’t love more if I tried!
Marshall is so broken as the story starts and my heart broke for him and I fell in love with him all at the same time. The loss he’d faced was unimaginable and I can’t even fathom thar kind of pain. Two years later and he was a shell of the man he once was. But even through his hurt he was still kind and he cared about people. I loved watching as his time in Maple Valley started to slowly heal him and lead him back to the ultimate Healer.
Mara hadn’t had an easy life either. Her father left when she was young, her mom basically checked out from then till her death, she had to deal with a stalker, and through it all was alone with no one to lean on and no place that felt like home. Until she stumbled onto the Everwood, Lenora, and a place to belong.
Marshall and Mara were wonderful together, a perfect team from the start. Their meet-cute was hilarious and I loved watching their relationship grow as the book went on. They both had a lot of healing to do and God used a quiet little bed & breakfast, each other, and the right words at the right times to draw them closer to him and to help them heal.
I honestly loved every second of this book from the lighthearted moments to the deep ones everything was beautifully crafted to create an amazing story! Maple Valley is my fictional home and I loved getting to come back again. I cannot wait for the next time!

One Enchanted Noel by Melissa Tagg
Secrets, Sparks and Second Chances…a Heartwarming Holiday Romance
Seb Pierce isn’t exactly a cowboy, but after fifteen years on a ranch in Texas, he might as well be. And he’d do just about anything to keep the rancher who took him in so many years ago from losing his land…including returning to the wealthy roots he’s long since abandoned. Seb agrees to work for his stern grandfather for one year in return for an early draw on his inheritance. But he never expected the agreement to land him in a quirky small town in Iowa at Christmas-time, renovating a dilapidated theater…and running into a woman he never thought he’d see again. She might not remember him, but he remembers her.
After too many years away from her hometown—and too many failures to count—Leigh Renwycke is finally back in Maple Valley and living the stable life she used to wish for. If only she could shake the old restlessness that used to get her into trouble. When Seb Pierce waltzes into her world and begs for her help planning the theater’s holiday reopening, it could be the solution to her discontent. If she pulls it off, it might be enough to jumpstart a new career…and to prove once and for all that the new-and-improved Leigh is here to stay.
But between old secrets and new sparks, restoring a town treasure in time for Christmas may not be as easy as it seems…especially once Leigh learns the truth about Seb.
My Thoughts
It's not at all a secret that I'm obsessed with anything and everything that Melissa writes, and her Christmas novellas have a special place in my heart. Christmas is my favorite holiday and the three things that immediately get me in the Christmas mood are putting up the tree, blaring my favorite Christmas songs, and reading Christmas novellas. I have read quite a few Christmas novellas over the years and I'm pretty sure that this one and it two predecessors are among the best of the best. I honestly adored every second of this story and was picking it up every chance I had. I saved it for the day after Thanksgiving (yes I am one of those strict no Christmas until after Thanksgiving people) but unfortunely that weekend was quite busy for me so I had to fit in snatches of this book here and there but it was so good I just couldn't wait till I had a chunk of free time.
I had loved the bits we got to see of Leigh in the other novellas but I knew there was so much more to her and I couldn't wait to discover her story. Despite a rough past full of bad choices Leigh had turned her life around and was now doing her best to provide for herself and her daughter.
Seb has been doing everything he can to earn his grandfather's favor in order to secure the funds to save the home of the man who was practially a father to him. I really admired his dedication and his willingness to do the hard work.
From the moment Seb and Leigh met the sparks and the humor were flying! Their "meet-cute" was absolutely perfect and I loved the way Seb teased her and called her "darlin'" all the time. Between their banter and that of the siblings I was pretty much smiling the whole time I was reading. And the setting of the old movie theater was so charming and fun and the perfect setting for this story!
So yeah I adored this novella and I can't recommend this and the rest of Melissa's books enough!

All This Time by Melissa Tagg
Bear McKinley's past refuses to let go.
Ten years ago, Bear gave up everything--his freedom and his reputation--for his mess of a family. But after years of distance and too many attempts at starting over, he finally has a new life doing noble work in Brazil . . . until his past catches up to him once again. Suddenly he finds himself back in Maple Valley, charged with the care of his missing brother's children, convinced he's out of second chances to make his life count. And yet, with every day that passes, these kids, this quirky town and the woman he never stopped missing help patch the holes in his heart. Maybe this is the fresh start he's been longing for all along. But as his newfound hope grows, so does the mystery surrounding his brother's activities--and when the threat reaches into the lives of those he loves, it's clear he can't run away this time.
Fear holds Raegan's future captive.
Raegan Walker is fine. She's happy working a slew of part-time jobs, still living in her childhood bedroom and rarely venturing from her hometown. At least, that's what she tells everyone . . . and herself. But she can't help wondering what might've happened if she hadn't abandoned her art so many years ago--and if Bear McKinley had never left. When Bear returns and she's commissioned for a painting that just might revive her artistic ambition all in one week, it's time to finally reach for more than fine. But doing so means facing the fears that have held her back all this time, including admitting the secret she's kept from Bear and her family. With her dream and her heart on the line, how much will Raegan have to risk to finally chase her happy ending?
My Thoughts
In the (paraphrased) words of Audrey Landry in the TV movie Wedding Daze, "As for Raegan and Bear, that's been coming for years!" Finally we get Raegan and Bear's story that has been teasing us since book one! Both of them have been amazing characters but you always knew there was so much more to their stories that we had yet to uncover. Bear was a complete mystery until this book and I loved getting to know him! Every new detail that emerged made me love him more. He was selfless, hardworking, and willing to do anything for those he cared about! Raegan has always been the fun little sister but there were hints along the way that everything was not as fine as she always claimed. As we found out what she had been dealing with and hiding for years my heart broke for her but I also admired her. The strength it took for her to face everything alone and the greater strength it took to eventually let others help her.
I loved having all of the Walkers together again! They are all fabulous on their own but when you get them all in one place it’s the absolute best!
Honestly the way Melissa writes characters is breathtakingly beautiful! They come alive off the pages and take up residence in your heart until you are feeling every emotion they feel! I just want to move to Maple Valley and become an honorary Walker! And every time I think I’ve read the best Melissa Tagg book the next one releases and I’m swept away again with a new favorite!! And once I dive in it’s almost impossible to get me out! I finished this book about 20 hours after I started (it would have been faster but exhaustion and work got in the way a little bit). I cannot rave about Melissa enough and if you have yet to experience her brilliance drop what you are doing and find one of her books now-you won’t be sorry!
