Top Ten Author Duos I Want to Write a Series Together

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

#1. Julie Lessman, Susan May Warren, Sarah Sundin, and Ronie Kendig-So this is four authors not two but I've had this idea for a series that is about four generations of men who fight in WWI (Julie Lessman), WWII (Sarah Sundin), Vietnam War (Susan May Warren), and the War on Terror (Ronie Kendig). These are all brilliant authors and I think this would be a fabulous collaboration!

#2. Melissa Tagg & Jenny B. Jones-My sides would literally split from laughter! These authors are hysterical and they would probably write the funniest series ever!

#3. Karen Witemeyer & Cathy Marie Hake-Two of my favorite authors when it comes western humor!

#4. Dani Pettrey & Irene Hannon-Both of these authors write contemporary suspense and I think they'd write a pretty awesome series together.

#5. Melanie Dickerson & Dina L. Sleiman-I think these two could write a fun retelling series together!

#6. Laura Frantz & Lori Benton-These two both write amazing books that take place in the early years of our country and they'd do a pretty good job writing a series together.

#7. Kate Breslin & Tricia Goyer-I think these two could write a pretty great WWII series together!

#8. Jill Williamson & C.J. Darlington-Both of these authors have written really brilliant Christian Dystopian and it would be cool to see what they would come up with!

#9. Shelley Adina & Melody Carlson-These authors could write a fun YA series!

#10. Jocelyn Green & Rosslyn Elliot-Great Civil War authors!

What I hope to read this week:
Yeah I think I'm going to just attempt to finish some of the ones I have started!

The Question:
What's your favorite "Halloween" snack to munch on while you're reading?

My Answer:
It's cliche but probably candy corn or those little pumpkins!

The Methuselah Project by Rick Barry

About the Book
In World War II, German scientists began many experiments. One never ended.
Roger Greene is a war hero. Raised in an orphanage, the only birthright he knows is the feeling that he was born to fly. Flying against the Axis Powers in World War II is everything he always dreamed―until the day he's shot down and lands in the hands of the enemy.
When Allied bombs destroy both his prison and the mad genius experimenting on POWs, Roger survives. Within hours, his wounds miraculously heal, thanks to those experiments. The Methuselah Project is a success―but this ace is still not free. Seventy years later, Roger hasn't aged a day, but he has nearly gone insane. This isn't Captain America―just a lousy existence only made passable by a newfound faith. The Bible provides the only reliable anchor for Roger's sanity and his soul. When he finally escapes, there's no angelic promise or personal prophecy of deliverance, just confusion. It's 2015―and the world has become an unrecognizable place.
Katherine Mueller―crack shot, genius, and real Southern Belle―offers to help him find his way home. Can he convince her of the truth of his crazy story? Can he continue to trust her when he finds out she works for the very organization he's trying to flee?

Thrown right into pulse-pounding action from the first page, readers will find themselves transported back in time to a believable, full-colored past, and then catapulted into the present once more. The historical back-and-forth adds a constantly moving element of suspense to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

My Thoughts
Since I had never heard of this author before, I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. But with part of the story set during WWII (my favorite time period) and a Captain America-esque hero (my favorite superhero) there was a pretty good chance I was going to like this book. Thankfully that turned out to be true. I was completely engrossed in the story from the first page until the very last. I loved Roger's character! It was amazing how he managed to keep his spirits up through all of his years of captivity! I was completely fascinated by his whole journey and was impressed by how the author never let the pace slip. Katherine's character was also pretty great, if a bit naive at times. In all this book was completely intriguing, well-written, and just plain good! I highly recommend it!

Waiting on Wednesday #182: The Wedding Chapel

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event that spotlights upcoming releases that we're
eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Wedding Chapel by Rachel Hauck
Zondervan-November 17, 2015

About the Book
A lonely wedding chapel built as a tribute to lost love just might hold the long-awaited secret to hope and reconciliation.
For sixty years, the wedding chapel has stood silent and empty. Retired football hall-of-famer Jimmy “Coach” Westbrook built the chapel by hand, stone by stone, for his beautiful and beloved Collette Greer, whom he lost so many years ago. The chapel is a sanctuary for his memories, a monument to true love, and a testament to his survival of the deepest pain and loss.
Photographer Taylor Branson left her hometown of Heart’s Bend, Tennessee to make a new life for herself in New York. Taylor had lots to run away from, not least of all a family history of broken promises and broken dreams. Love catches Taylor off guard when she falls for Jack Forester, a successful advertising executive, and their whirlwind romance leads to an elopement – and then to second guesses. Jack, in spite of his very real love for Taylor, is battling his own demons and struggles to show her his true self and the depths of his love for her.
When Taylor takes a photography assignment in Heart’s Bend, she is thrown back into her own past and encounters family secrets buried deep beneath the sands of time. And when Taylor and Coach’s journeys collide, they each rediscover the heartbeat of their own dreams as they learn that the love they long to hold is well worth waiting for.

Why I Want It
I've loved so many of Rachel Hauck's books and this one sounds really good!

Monthly Reflections #44: September 2015

Photobucket

September was a rather crazy month! I had two weddings for two very close friends at the beginning of the month. One at my home church and another the very next day in another state. After the second wedding I spent a couple days with my second family at the beach then we road tripped home. The next couple weeks were filled with work during the day and either spending time with friends or babysitting most evenings! So yeah I've been busy! I also had to deal with my laptop dying on me but thanks to an awesome brother I now have a new one and I'm up and running again! Due to my hectic schedule I only managed to finish 4 books but I did meet my goal of getting 30 reviews up!

Books I Read
Two non-fiction books and two fiction, all good!

Reviews I Wrote:

In October I Hope To:
Read at least 7 books
Post at least 5 reviews

The Question:
You're volunteering to read a book to a group of young children at a library. What scary themed book for kids would you read to them?

My Answer:
My parents were anti-Halloween so I don't really have a frame of reference for scary children's books. I would probably just pick some Halloween themed book from a popular franchise like Curious George or Fancy Nancy.

An Uncertain Choice by Jody Hedlund

About the Book
Due to her parents' promise at her birth, Lady Rosemarie has been prepared to become a nun on the day she turns eighteen. Then, a month before her birthday, a friend of her father's enters the kingdom and proclaims her parents' will left a second choice--if Rosemarie can marry before the eve of her eighteenth year, she will be exempt from the ancient vow.
Before long, Rosemarie is presented with the three most handsome and brave knights in the land. But when the competition for her heart seemingly results in a knight playing foul, she begins to wonder if the convent is the best place after all. If only one of the knights--the one who appears the most guilty--had not already captured her heart.

My Thoughts
As a huge fan of Jody Hedlud's historical novels I was beyond ecstatic to discover that she was publishing a YA medieval story! I anxiously awaited it's release and was so excited the day it arrived in my mailbox. I read it as quickly as my busy schedule allowed and I loved every minute! It was such a fun and unique premise and it was executed brilliantly. The author did a good job of keeping you guessing, a least for a bit, which knight Rosemarie would fall in love with. Full warning I plan to talk about the knight she does chose so if you want to have it be a bit of a mystery then you probably shouldn't read further. I loved Rosemarie especially her compassionate nature and her love and care for everyone even those who were technically beneath her station. As for the three knights I enjoyed them all but one of them stood out to me from the beginning and I was so happy when he was the one Rosemarie fell in love with. Bennet was charming with his flattery, Collin was endearing with his humor and carefree personality, but it was Derrick who caught my attention from the get go. He's more the strong yet quiet type not given to the bold grand gestures like his friends. I loved how he never tried to impress Rosemarie, but rather unashamedly did what he believed to be right. Honestly he was a completely swoon-worthy hero that I quickly fell in love with.
I guessed early on who was behind all of the incidents that kept occurring but that didn't make it any less intriguing and I was even a little shocked at the lengths the individual was willing to go to.
Even though this is a shorter book it really didn't feel like it and the author did a fabulous job of using every moment to her advantage! I loved everything about this book and cannot wait for book two!

Meet the Author
Jody Hedlund is an award-winning and bestselling author of inspirational historical romances for both youth and adults.
As a busy mama-writer, she has the wonderful privilege of teaching her crew of 5 children at home. In between grading math papers and giving spelling tests, she occasionally does a load of laundry and washes dishes. When she's not busy being a mama, you can find her in front of her laptop working on another of her page-turning stories.
She loves reading almost as much as she loves writing, especially when it also involves chocolate and coffee.

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
